Well, Kathy and I survived another Thanksgiving Holiday season. My wife (like her mother) is a terrific cook. She has been preparing Thanksgiving dinner every year for as long as we can remember.

It’s always a lot of work but we wouldn’t have it any other way. She puts together more types of food than you can possibly get on your plate but somehow the stuff always gets devoured within a few days.

What’s really special for both of us, of course, is having everyone over to our home. I watch my wife laugh and smile all day long as she teases our sons, gets various food dishes ready at the right time, makes sure her elderly mother and father are taken care of, and sips a glass of wine with our daughters-in-law.

In the evening, after Kathy’s mom and dad head home and the food is put away (yeah right), we traditionally play games at the dining room table and everyone yuks it up again. Especially Kathy and I.

A couple of times during the day and the evening we look at each other and smile about what a family life we have created. It wasn’t by accident. We had planned this from the time we were engaged to be married.

This is the life we wanted, this is the life we enjoy. I think my best friend and I have a good thing going.
