Thanksgiving… So Much to be Grateful For

When my son Philip was in high school he blurted out during one of the holidays that Thanksgiving was his favorite celebration. The anticipation of an outstanding meal combined with the fun of being around family provided great memories for Philip.
I agree with him. But it goes beyond family and food. Do you think that people in this country have any idea how fortunate we all are here in the land of the free? I think most of us do. Even the low income citizens here are living a better life style than most people around the world.
Success breeds success. We all want more… it’s a normal response. What we cannot afford is a mentality that says we need all these extra things. We don’t need them, we want them. Big difference.
A wise man explained something very basic to me that I have never forgotten. He said that when you pray to God our Father you must acknowledge his blessings before you ask for his help and guidance.
If you’re honest with yourself and truly understand the value of life, the list of those things you are grateful for will be a mile long. When you get in the habit of thanking Him every day, you come to realize that the other gifts you think about are insignificant compared to what you already have.
So, on this Thanksgiving Day, thank our Creator for family, friends, love, freedom, opportunity, health, celebrations, humor, and the happiness of being alive.
Pass the turkey!
