The Exorcist… “Tubular Bells”

October 30th, 2010

Mike Oldfield produced “Tubular Bells” back in the early 70’s and it became the theme song for the Exorcist. This hauntingly beautiful song was the perfect backdrop for a movie that was one of the most popular movies of its time.

This music still gives me the creeps over 35 years later…

Fright Night Movies…

October 29th, 2010

Do you Boomers like to have your own “Fright Night” watching scary movies? Do you like to have your heart pounding watching impending doom (someone else’s doom, of course)? Do you like those moments in a movie that practically make you jump out of your chair? Why yes, I do.

I have to admit that I’m a scary movie guy. I haven’t seen every horror movie ever made but I’ve seen my share. As a kid I loved the “Dracula” films, the “Frankenstein” films, “King Kong”, “The Thing”, and the Sherlock Holmes movies. It was always a thrill to wonder what terrible evil or grisly death would befall someone next.

This is Halloween weekend which means you have a chance to watch a spook movie Friday night, Saturday night, or Sunday night while you hand out candy to your little neighborhood monsters. You actually have plenty of movies to choose from that have come out in the last twenty five years or so.

The obvious choices are the multiple “Halloween” films that feature Michael Myers; the “Friday the 13th” series featuring Jason Voorhees; and the “Nightmare on Elm Street” movies featuring Freddy Krueger. You don’t really need to see these in any kind of order. Murder and mayhem ensues in each film.

There are newer versions of “Dracula”, “The Thing”, and “King Kong” that are very good movies. “Silence of the Lambs” will give you shivers and the “Exorcist” will wear you out.

The best scary movie? My vote is for the original “Alien”… kept me on the edge of my seat throughout the show.

Go ahead and scare yourself to death. Hey, don’t forget the popcorn.
