November Elections… House Cleaning?

September 29th, 2010

The 2010 mid-year national elections will be in the news in about one month. Will this be a house cleaning for many of our elected officials? It sure looks like it from here. To put it mildly, the folks are fed up with Washington D.C.

I think it’s been building for a few years now and things seem to be coming to a head in politics. The casualties will be high and there will be no prisoners taken in November. The carnage will be devastating and swift.

Whatever the landscape will be afterwards, the message will have been heard in the halls of Congress and hopefully in the White House. As a Baby Boomer that has paid attention to politics for 40 years, I have never seen citizens so upset as they are right now. Professional politicians will pay dearly for ignoring people back home.

Credit needs to be given to the Tea Party movement in this country for mobilizing so many frustrated voters. Even if you don’t agree with them on issues, recognize the power that we citizens can have on our government when we get together and express our outrage.

Let’s hope that this house cleaning will be a good thing for all of us. Let’s hope that the new group of politicians remembers why they are there.

Buddy Rich and Gene Kroupa are considered to be the greatest drummers of all time. That didn’t scare Animal from the Muppets one bit. Watch this drum face off between a great drummer and a …whatever.

The Pillsbury Doughboy… Stick a Fork In Him

September 28th, 2010

Dear friends,

It is with the saddest heart that I pass on the following. Please join
me in remembering a great icon. The Pillsbury Doughboy died yesterday of a yeast infection and complications from repeated pokes in the belly. He was 71.

Doughboy was buried in a lightly-greased coffin. Dozens of celebrities turned out to pay their respects, including Mrs. Butterworth, Hungry Jack, the California Raisins, Betty Crocker, the Hostess Twinkies, and Cap’n Crunch.

The grave site was piled high with flours as long-time friend, Aunt Jemima, delivered the eulogy, describing Doughboy as a man
who never knew how much he was kneaded. Doughboy rose quickly in show business, but his later life was filled with turnovers.

He was not considered a very “smart” cookie, wasting much of his dough on half-baked schemes. Despite being a little flaky at times, he — even still, as a crusty old man — was considered a roll model for millions.

Toward the end, it was thought he would rise again, but alas, he was no tart.

Doughboy is survived by his wife, Play Dough; two children, John Dough and Jane Dough; plus they had one in the oven. He is also survived by his elderly father, Pop Tart.

Boomer Questionaire… New Feature

September 27th, 2010

This week I am going to add a new feature to Baby Boomer Baloney to get feedback from you on issues involving Baby Boomers. This feedback system is called “Opinion Exchange”. The idea is to get opinions from us Baby Boomers on market trends that have an affect on our age bracket.

We are a very dynamic group that controls most of the individual capital in the United States and marketing companies want to know what is important to us. They want to know what we will spend our money on at this stage of our lives. What lifestyles are we living right now?

We can have a real impact on what becomes available to us Boomers by providing information to these polling devices. So, obviously, participation is a good thing.

So, answer the poll when you can. It helps all of us.

Marketing announcement:
New Polling Tool Gives Voice to Baby Boomers and Seniors

If you recently visited Baby Boomer Baloney you may have noticed we are featuring a new polling tool ── The BA|Opinion Exchange™.

The BA|Opinion Exchange™ is the first polling tool that gives voice to the 50+ baby boomer and seniors. Over 60 websites, blogs and social networking communities from the Boomer Authority™ Association (http://BoomerAuthority.org) are now displaying the polling tool, gathering and optimizing information to make certain YOUR voice is heard by the decision-makers that matter most ── business executives and political leaders who value YOUR viewpoint on their brands and policy making.

Each day, a fresh set of three questions will be displayed on Baby Boomer Baloney. Your response to each question is totally anonymous. So visit us often and participate.

As a consensus emerges about a particular political issue, lifestyle trend or buying preference, we will publish the findings.

Become a Powerful Voice

If you would like to submit a question to get a better sense of what our generation is thinking or to validate your own belief, email the question to (ptmcmillan@gmail.com).

Have a good one,

Phil McMillan, Baby Boomer Baloney
