“Caddyshack”… Vintage Rodney Dangerfield

April 30th, 2009

Rodney Dangerfield and Ted Knight are perfect enemies in this goofball movie. The lines never stop coming and you’ll laugh yourself silly.

“Caddyshack” will forever be a comedy classic of the 1980’s. The movie also features Bill Murray, Chevy Chase, and Michael O’Keefe.

Do the Right Thing…

April 30th, 2009

Let’s hope they we all do the right thing when called. This Marine certainly did.

A nurse took the tired, anxious serviceman to the bedside. ‘Your son is here,’ she said to the old man. She had to repeat the words several times before the patient’s eyes opened.

He was heavily sedated because of the pain of his heart attack, he dimly saw the young uniformed Marine standing outside the oxygen tent. He reached out his hand. The Marine wrapped his toughened fingers around the old man’s limp ones, squeezing a message of love and encouragement.

The nurse brought a chair so that the Marine could sit beside the bed. All through the night the young Marine sat there in the poorly lighted ward, holding the old man’s hand and offering him words of love and strength. Occasionally, the nurse suggested that the Marine move away and rest awhile. He refused.

Whenever the nurse came into the ward, the Marine was oblivious of her and of the night noises of the hospital – the clanking of the oxygen tank, the laughter of the night staff members exchanging greetings, the cries and moans of the other patients.

Now and then she heard him say a few gentle words. The dying man said nothing, only held tightly to his son all through the night. Along towards dawn, the old man died.

The Marine released the now lifeless hand he had been holding and went to tell the nurse. While she did what she had to do, he waited. Finally, she returned. She started to offer words of sympathy, but the Marine interrupted her. ‘Who was that man?’ he asked.

The nurse was startled, ‘He was your father,’ she answered.

‘No, he wasn’t,’ the Marine replied. ‘I never saw him before in my life.’

‘Then why didn’t you say something when I took you to him?’

‘I knew right away there had been a mistake, but I also knew he needed his son, and his son just wasn’t here. When I realized that he was too sick to tell whether or not I was his son, knowing how much he needed me, I stayed.’

The next time someone needs you… just be there. Just Stay.

Baby Boomer Age…

April 29th, 2009

Do you remember looking at middle aged people when you were young and thinking “I will never let myself look like that!”

Well, we’re here. The Baby Boomer Age is now middle aged. How do we look? I would guess that as a group we look better than our parents did. Realistically, they worked harder than we did. For many of them the times were more physical and more dangerous.

They went through the Depression and World War II. They seemed to be wiped out and tired at a younger age. The Baby Boomer Age wants to keep going. We may not be partying much anymore but we want to experience all we can.

The land of the free and the home of the brave has made it possible for our Baby Boomer Age to own businesses, to travel much more than previous generations, and to retire with meaningful capital.

Even those of us that could not get much money put away for later in life are living enjoyable lives as the standard of living continues to rise in these United States.

Yep. The Baby Boomer Age has arrived and we are very blessed. Let’s make sure we never forget our fellow Boomers who gave their lives in Vietnam and elsewhere. Many never got the chance to come home to get married, have their own children, go to a college football game, enjoy Christmas with family and friends.

They made sure that we could continue to do all of these things and so much more.

Steven Wright… Cerebral Comedy from the 70’s

April 28th, 2009

He deadpans it so well. He is very clever and his timing is perfect. Steven Wright is the most different comedian I have ever seen.

His comedy material is thought provoking but hilarious. Watch him do his stuff.

The Jitterbug is Back!

April 28th, 2009

It was huge in the 40’s and 50’s. You would see it occasionally in the 60’s and then it seemed to die out as a popular dance routine.

But the Jitterbug is alive and well with these two young people. Watch this.

“Hoosiers”… Dennis Hopper Shines

April 27th, 2009

It’s one of the best sports movies ever made and by far the best basketball movie ever put on the big screen. “Hoosiers” continues to be an inspiration to anyone that ever dreamed big. The little guy defeats Goliath… and it’s a true story.

Gene Hackman did a terrific job as the coach, but it was supporting actor Dennis Hopper that was unforgetable as a man trying to get his life back in order.
