Buddy Holly… Simply the Best

March 31st, 2009

He was only 22 when he died in that terrible plane crash along with Ritchie Valens and the Big Bopper. He already had several hits in his young life and his talent was enormous.

He might have been the biggest writer, composer, arranger, and singer of them all. The gift that was given to Buddy Holly did not last long enough.

Life on the road…

March 31st, 2009

While on a road trip, an elderly couple stopped at a roadside
restaurant for lunch. After finishing their meal, they left the
restaurant, and resumed their trip. When leaving, the elderly woman
unknowingly left her glasses on the table, and she didn’t miss them
until they had been driving about forty minutes. By then, to add to
the aggravation, they had to travel quite a distance before they
could find a place to turn around, in order to return to the
restaurant to retrieve her glasses.

All the way back, the elderly husband became the classic grouchy old man. He fussed and complained, and scolded his wife relentlessly during the entire return drive. The more he chided her, the more agitated he became. He just wouldn’t let up one minute. To her relief, they finally arrived at the restaurant. As the woman got out of the car, and hurried inside to retrieve her glasses, the old geezer yelled to her, “While you’re in there, you might as well get my hat and the credit card.”

This coming week is National Mental Health Care week. You can do  your part by remembering to contact at least one unstable person to show you care. Well….my job is done. Your turn.

Irish Logic…

March 31st, 2009

An email from Ireland to the brethren in the States…a point to ponder despite your political affiliation:

“We, in Ireland, can’t figure out why people are even bothering to
hold an election in the United States.

On one side, you have a pants wearing lawyer, married to a lawyer who can’t keep his pants on, who just lost a long and heated primary against a lawyer who goes to the wrong church who is married to yet another lawyer who doesn’t even like the country her husband wants to run.

Now…on the other side, you have a nice old war hero whose name starts with the appropriate Mc terminology, married to a good looking younger woman who owns a beer distributorship.

What in Lords name are ye lads thinking over there in the colonies??”

Steve Martin came out in the late 60’s with his off beat brand of humor and became extremely popular. I saw him in concert with some friends and he about killed us. We were laughing so hard our sides hurt.

Here is his bit on King Tut that he did on Saturday Night Live.

The Toughest Man There is Alive… Alley Oop

March 26th, 2009

Some of you boomers remember this wacky song.

This was one of the great novelty songs of all time. Alley Oop by The Hollywood Argyles hit #1 in 1960. Very creative lyrics about this caveman… “He can knuckle your head before you count to four.”

Try this: “He’s a mean motor scooter and a bad go getter.” Very different song but fun to listen to.

March 26th, 2009

Hey kids… what time is it? It’s time to watch that wooden puppet dance all over the place.

Now you can watch Howdy, Buffalo Bob, Clarabell, Mr Bluster, and the Chief work their magic. Look at the audience and realize that those kids were our age when we were tuning in on television. Yikes!

We the People…

March 25th, 2009

There has been considerable talk in this country about another “Tea Party” because of political unrest. We are fortunate to live in the greatest country in the world but we still have our problems that need to be tackled.

The mood in America is that politicians in general do not represent us anymore. They seem to only be concerned about the power of their parties and their own personal re-election.

Listen to this video.
