The rock group the “Who” was the half time entertainment last night at the Super Bowl and I have to say it… why? Actually, I’m a fan of the Who and I have a handful of their classics on my iTunes at home but I don’t think they did themselves any favors appearing before a gazillion people around the world.

I’m a huge fan of the most remarkable musical period in human history… the 60’s. But there comes a point when you want some songs and the artists that play them to simply be great memories. In other words, please don’t get up on stage again. Please.

Maybe the best comparison I can make is to watch beautiful actresses that do not age well. It’s unfair, but nature can really do a number on some of them, you know? Actors get older and many look distinguished, but many actresses just look old. All of a sudden their careers are over.

Many of these relics from the 60’s are going to be 70 soon (how can this be?). Can you imagine the Rolling Stones on stage in a few years? I can’t get the thought of Keith Richards walking on stage with a cane and an oxygen tank out of my head. He looks dead now, so how bad will he look in a few more years? Scary.

These guys need to move on in their lives. I’m sure they love what they do and they still collect pretty nice bucks for performing, but there comes a time to become a retired grandfather.

I think that time has arrived for the Who.

There is nothing worse than feeling your life is in danger because someone is attacking you on the street (or in a bedroom).

What do you do to protect yourself? Make sure you watch this.

Now, why did the oil spill into the sea? Well, the front of the ship came off. Funny interview.

The sound was so unique, so full of harmony, so good. What did you think of the Beach Boys? Favorite song?

Why do we Baby Boomers let these politicians get away with whining, complaining, and moaning about the living conditions of our nation? We have the advantage of comparing our current life styles to the life styles of our families when we were very young. There is no comparison.

We are living like Queens and Kings who have started to take these life styles for granted. We Americans have had it so good for so long that many of us have forgotten where we have come from.

I want my President, my Governor, my Congressman, and my Senator to sing the praises of these United States when it’s appropriate… which is most of the time. Tell me when there are problems to be aware of, for sure, but do not take cheap shots at our success for political advantage.

We have developed this country of ours so far that even our poor live better than most people do around the world. In spite of temporary set backs (recessions, downsizing, etc) this country has a sizable middle class, a large number of homeowners, pension plans for most people, and freedom to find a way to do what you want.

When those in office start talking about “tales of woe” involving a large number of our fellow citizens, grab your wallet. Tell these folks to get real. We will always aim to improve this great nation of ours, but don’t lie to me and exaggerate.

Alfred E Newman

Darwin Award stories tell us how some individual pathetically (but humorously) remove themselves from the gene pool. Read this:

In FRANCE, Jacques LeFevrier left nothing to chance when he decided to commit suicide. He stood at the top of a tall cliff and tied a noose around his neck. He tied the other end of the rope to a large rock. He drank some poison and set fire to his clothes. He even tried to shoot himself at the last moment. He jumped and fired the pistol. The bullet missed him completely and cut through the rope above him. Free of the threat of hanging, he plunged into the sea. The sudden dunking extinguished the flames and made him vomit the poison. He was dragged out of the water by a kind fisherman and was taken to a hospital, where he died of hypothermia.

(Truth can be stranger than fiction, huh?)

I ran this sometime last year and received some nice comments about it. Every time I hear this song, now, I think of those who serve us and those who have served us.

Never forget.
